Alpine Road Survey Preliminary Results – September 27, 2008

Alpine Road

Alpine Road

As of Sept. 27, 70 people have taken the Alpine Road survey. I will end the survey on Oct. 12 and make the results available to the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District, the public agency that could do something about maintaining this popular recreation corridor to Skyline Boulevard and MROSD lands.

While the right of way is technically under the jurisdiction of San Mateo County public works, MROSD manages the land through which the road passes.

After the Big Slide on Alpine Road, my rides here became infrequent, only a couple times a year. The detour and overall decline in the road made it less appealing.

In recent weeks I have ridden it, downhill, a couple times so I could document the road’s condition. It’s more of a trail than a road and more suited to a mountain bike than a road bike. Even as a trail, it’s on shaky ground, so to speak. It won’t be long before more washouts take out the road.

I’ll post complete results shortly after the survey ends.
