Weird and Wacky Green Prix Parade Coming to San Jose

Will we see this Kinetic Sculpture entry at the Green Prix Parade?

Do you like weird? I hope so, because you don’t want to miss the Green Prix Parade this Saturday, September 18, in downtown San Jose, beginning at the South Hall parking lot and proceeding down South First Street. It goes from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Bring your camera!

What is Green Prix? As near as I can tell, it’s something like the Kinetic Sculpture races, only without the competition. All sorts of odd human-powered vehicles will see action. The creativity of these right-brain thinkers boggles the mind.

It took a lot of digging to find information, which is part of a highfalutin New Age gathering called Zer01 SJ Biennial, or something like that. The people who built the website give every indication they live in a Different Dimension. Where is Buckaroo Banzai when we need him?

Fortunately, the wheels-on-the-ground Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition (SVBC) keeps me informed of bicycle happenings, otherwise I would miss this one. If you don’t subscribe to SVBC, you’re missing out.

SVBC Open House
The SVBC just moved its offices a couple miles to new digs on The Alameda, using bicycle power alone. Its Open House is Thursday, September 16, from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at 1922 The Alameda Suite 420, in San Jose.

Zer01 says it’s bringing together artists, designers, engineers, architects, marketers, corporations (and let’s not forget the homeless) to build a better, more sustainable world, and that includes bicycles. Good for them.

A lot of activities are taking place in downtown San Jose starting Thursday, with some Friday night fun where I’m sure you will be entertained. You might learn more on the Zer01 website.
