    Ray,

    I’ve been following your blog for a year or two now and it always lifts my spirits when a new post shows up on my RSS feed.

    I too rode with Jobst in the early 70’s and was pretty sure that you and I had been on some rides together. If you took this picture on Mt. Hamilton then here is the proof.

    The unknown rider in the iconoclastic attire is me. Nothing in that outfit cost more that about two dollars. One of the other riders, it may have been John Hiatt, gave me his old pair of cycling shoes. The duck hunting vest had a large waterproof rear pouch which was quite handy for carrying things (since my shirts didn’t yet have pockets on the back) although the lining made it a sweat trap. It wasn’t long after this that I got proper woolen bike shorts and sewed pockets on the back of a wool jersey.

    I remember those rides with Jobst with great fondness.
